hotel del coronado
Four days, two traditions, one shoreline. Carly and Aman were married at Hotel del Coronado in
September 2024, and the weekend honored everything: a Hindu wedding and a Jewish wedding, each given its complete ceremony, feast and dance floor, with the Pacific behind all of it.
Venue: Hotel del Coronado, Coronado, California
Season: Early September
Guests: 275
Ceremonies: Hindu, beneath the mandap; Jewish, beneath the chuppah at sunset on Windsor Lawn
Reception: Ocean Ballroom
Design: Beth Helmstetter
Florals: Emily Frances Design
Photography: Jenny Quicksall
> THE STORY
It began with a haldi on the beach, turmeric and laughter with the ocean right there, and a sangeet that
same night. Families and friends performed under a custom structure inside the ballroom, transforming the space with hanging florals and lighting fixtures. Guests sipped on cocktails and enjoyed various Indian dishes. In the ballroom where the Sangeet was held, Beth Helmstetter's team created a Bazaar station where guests can pick their favorite bangles and other celebratory items. The DJ played high energy music and by the end of the first night the two families were one guest list.
Then two full wedding days. A Hindu ceremony beneath the mandap, Emily Frances Design's florals in full
color against the white of the Del. And a Jewish ceremony beneath the chuppah as the sun set over the
Pacific, which is the frame I'd show anyone asking why this venue. Beth Helmstetter designed the whole
arc so each tradition had its own look and its own time.
Each celebration had its feast and its dance floor, including a hora under the fully draped ballroom and late-night In-N-Out. A farewell brunch closed the weekend. Nobody wanted to go home.
Can the Del hold a multi-day, multi-tradition wedding?
Yes. Carly and Aman used the beach, the lawns and the indoor rooms across four days, and the hotel is
built for it. The key is a designer who gives each event its own identity.
Where is the ceremony with the ocean behind it?
The sunset ceremony faces the Pacific from the lawn side of the hotel, and the light in the last half hour is
warm and low. Plan for the ceremony to end right around sunset, not before.
What about the beach for a haldi or a welcome event?
The Del has its own stretch of sand, and it's the best possible setting for a haldi. Morning light, bare feet,
and the hotel's red turrets behind you.
