Hotel del Coronado has been hosting weddings for more than a century. The Victorian hotel opened in 1888 and sits right on its own beach across the bay from San Diego, white and red and unmistakable. It's the venue I recommend when a couple wants a real beach wedding with a grand hotel behind it.

Del Beach is the hotel's private sand, for ceremonies, welcome events and the kind of morning gathering
Carly and Aman used it for. The Windsor Lawn is the outdoor ceremony and reception space with the ocean beside it. Indoors, the Crown Room is the historic ballroom, wood-domed ceiling and chandeliers, old Hollywood in the best way, and the Ballroom is the second large indoor option.

The spaces

The Del takes a multicultural, multi-day wedding well because the spaces are so different from each other. A haldi on the sand, a sangeet in a ballroom, a mandap on the lawn, a chuppah at sunset, a tented
reception, a farewell brunch, all without leaving the property. Carly and Aman's weekend is the proof.

Two traditions, one place

The beach and lawn face west over the Pacific, so sunset here is the real thing, right over the water. I'd
plan the main ceremony to end as the sun touches the horizon, and save fifteen minutes on the sand
afterward for the two of you. Mornings on the beach are soft and often overcast until late morning, which is perfect for a haldi.

Light and timing

Can we hold a Hindu and a Jewish wedding at the same venue?
Yes, and the Del is one of the best places in Southern California to do it, because the beach, lawns and
ballrooms let each ceremony have its own setting.

Where should the sunset ceremony be?
On the lawn facing the water, ending right at sunset. The light in that last half hour is what the Del is known
for.

Is it good for guests who fly in?
Very. It's a resort with a beach, across the bridge from San Diego and its airport, and guests can spend the whole weekend without a car.

Do you travel to San Diego?
Yes, often. I'm based in Thousand Oaks and photograph weddings up and down the coast, and the Del is
one I'd say yes to every time.

Carly and Aman each had their own suite at the hotel on separate floors.  The one Carly and her bridesmaids were in had tons of natural light with access to a wrap around balcony with an ocean view. This was the perfect place for her getting ready photos.
