Casa Hyder is a private house in the historic center of San Miguel de Allende, rented whole for a wedding:
courtyards, terraces, a pool, and rooms full of color, tile and art. It holds roughly 50 to 150 guests depending on how you use it. I photographed Eileen and Intcher's wedding here and it's the venue I recommend when a couple wants a destination wedding that feels like a house party in the most beautiful house in town.

The courtyard is the ceremony space, open to the sky, walls in deep color, the kind of setting where florals only have to add to what's there. The terraces and interior rooms take cocktail hour and dinner, and the whole property becomes yours for the day. There's no hotel lodging on site, which is a feature, not a problem: guests stay in the hotels and casas of the centro and walk over.

The house

San Miguel is a walking city, cobblestones and church towers and every doorway painted. Eileen and
Intcher's guests walked from the rehearsal dinner to the welcome party through the town square, and that procession is one of my favorite sets of frames from the whole weekend. Plan at least one event that
moves through the streets.

The city is part of the wedding

The courtyard gets direct sun in the middle of the day and beautiful, even light once the sun drops behind
the walls, so I'd plan a ceremony for late afternoon. Cocktail hour on the terrace catches the last light on
the church domes. Evenings are cool in the high desert even in spring, and the lanterns do the rest.

Light and timing

How many guests fit?
Roughly 50 to 150 depending on the layout. The courtyard ceremony feels full and festive at either end of that range.

Is it hard to plan a wedding in Mexico?
Not with a local planner. Casa Hyder is the space; every vendor comes from outside, so a San Miguel
planner like Monserrat Guerrero is the whole difference.

What's the best time of year?
Spring and fall are the two most popular seasons. Eileen and Intcher married in March.

Do you travel to San Miguel de Allende?
Yes, gladly. I'm based in California and photograph destination weddings in Mexico and beyond.

Questions couples ask about Casa Hyder

Eileen and Intcher got ready in the casa.  There's a room near the rooftop of the venue that has the best light where Eileen and her girls enjoyed their morning.  Intcher and the guys got ready in a room that's closer to the front of the casa away from the girls. The venue offers so many options for photo areas that it's easy to keep the bride away from the groom prior to the ceremony.
