casa hyder

Eileen and Intcher were married in March 2025 at Casa Hyder in San Miguel de Allende, a destination
wedding for me and for nearly every guest. It's the wedding I point to when a couple asks whether their
own traditions can travel, because this one brought a Korean paebaek into a Mexican courtyard and it was
one of the most joyful days I've photographed.

The city opened the weekend. A rehearsal dinner downtown, and then the part I loved most: everyone
walked together from the restaurant to the welcome party, a whole procession through the town square,
and the night ended celebrating with their friends. San Miguel is built for that. Every street is a backdrop.

The city, and a walk through it

On the wedding day, Casa Hyder's courtyard filled to its walls. Vasija Floral's marigolds, confetti in the air,
and a ceremony in a space that's all color, tile and sky. A mariachi band played during cocktail hour, and
Monserrat Guerrero's design let the house be the house.

The courtyard

The reception held a paebaek, the traditional Korean family ceremony, with Eileen and Intcher in full
hanbok. They bowed to their parents, and then the moment everyone waits for: the parents tossed dates and chestnuts and the couple caught them in a cloth, the number caught said to predict the children to come. Bringing that into a wedding in Mexico was wonderful to see. Then star lanterns glowed overhead and the party spilled across the stones.

The paebaek

Can we bring a cultural ceremony into a destination wedding?
Yes, and it's the best thing you can do. A paebaek in a San Miguel courtyard was the heart of Eileen and
Intcher's reception, and every guest was drawn into it.

Where do guests stay?
Casa Hyder is a private house, not a hotel, so guests stay in San Miguel's hotels and rental casas, most
within a short walk. The walk is part of the fun.

Do you travel to Mexico?
Yes. San Miguel de Allende is one of my favorite places to photograph, and I'll happily travel for a wedding
there.
